Castanha Martaínha

The Castanha Martaínha is one of Portugal's most renowned chestnut varieties – sweet, shiny, and pleasantly easy to peel. It originates from the municipality of Sernancelhe in the heart of the protected designation of origin (DOP) Soutos da Lapa, a region with a long tradition in chestnut cultivation. The chestnuts are natural, 100% Portuguese, and naturally gluten-free.

Chestnuts are a seasonal natural product: The harvest takes place each fall, and only then are fresh chestnuts available. For this reason, we offer the Castanha Martaínha only during the winter season, as long as the current harvest lasts – outside of this time, the product is not available from us.

Starting August 2026, you can pre-order the Castanha Martaínha from us. Delivery will take place directly after the harvest, expected at the end of October 2026 – ensuring the chestnuts are guaranteed fresh when they arrive at your doorstep.The quantity is limited, so early pre-ordering is worthwhile.

Available in 1 kg, 3 kg, and 5 kg. When stored cool at 2–5°C, the chestnuts last the longest; they taste best roasted, boiled, or as an ingredient in autumn dishes.
