Description

Bright ruby red of medium depth. Vibrant aroma with notes of red and black fruits as well as herbal nuances. Aromatic complexity with subtle wood and forest notes. The lively acidity gives the medium body a linearity, with firm yet elegant tannins. Long, textured, and crisp.

Vinification

This wine is created from a blend of different maturation methods. Approximately 70% of the wine was matured in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining 30% comes from an assemblage of various barrels. For barrel aging, 225-liter barrels made of French oak—both new and used—were used, complemented by 500-liter barrels and a portion from a chestnut wood barrel.

Código Wine comes from the Serra da Estrela subregion in the Dão - one of the oldest and most independent wine regions in Portugal. Behind the project is oenologist Tiago Macena, who reinterprets the Dão's indigenous grape varieties: Encruzado, Bical, Uva Cão, Touriga Nacional - each bottle is an independent expression of the area, vinified in oak barrels and traditional clay amphoras.

The name says it all: Código – secret code. Macena decodes what the vines and terroir of the Serra da Estrela have to say. The result is wines with character and depth, far from uniform international tastes.
